About The Event
Calligraphy Workshop
Begin the New Year with brush and intention. Kakizome is Japan’s traditional first calligraphy of the year, where we write words that reflect our hopes and direction for the year ahead. Translation and guidance are provided. No experience or prepared words needed. We provide all materials.
Instructor's Bio: Rev. Kodai Haga (Sen) I am a Japanese Buddhist minister of the Rinzai Zen Mission in Paia, Maui, representing the Rinzai Zen school, which emphasizes Zen Buddhist teachings. I lead the temple community, conduct prayer services, deliver Dharma talks, and teach Zazen meditation. In addition to my ministerial work, I teach Japanese calligraphy four times a month. I have studied calligraphy for approximately 20 years, viewing it as both an artistic practice and a form of meditation that reflects the Zen spirit.
All materials are included and class will be held at Friends & Faire at 11 N. Market St.…
